How long have you lived in Dunlap Lake? One year.

What’s your favorite thing about living here? The wooded setting, set off by the calming view of the lake.

What inspired you to live here in the first place? Love the neighborhood and setting.

What’s something about you that people may not know? I walk my dog, Lola, twice a day for several miles, but not by choice!

Is there something you want people to know? I’ve been a firefighter/medic for 33 years (first 29 in Collinsville) and fire chief in Edwardsville for the last four years; my wife, Kim, has worked for Washington University in various capacities for more than 20 years; we have three grown children (Matt, Jill and Ben) and one granddaughter (Adelaide Gray Welle). Also, I’m one of 13 children born to Robert and Lois Welle.

Who would play you in a movie about your life? Tom Hanks?

If you could have dinner with any two people (living or dead), who would they be? Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth (to see if I could help hammer out their differences).

Hobbies, sports or anything that brings joy and contentment to life? I love to do woodworking when I get the opportunity; also enjoy home remodeling, anything that involves working with my hands

Anything we’ve missed? Smoke detectors save lives!
