Following our August vote to approve the dredging plan with a cost not to exceed $4.5 million and to seek support from the city to fund it through the creation of a Special Service Area (SSA), officers of the board of directors met with city officials to report the findings and explore the way forward. While 61% of the DLPOA membership voted in favor, some lake residents have expressed their opposition to the mayor and aldermen and it is clear that we will need a minimum of two-thirds majority  before the city council will commence the SSA process.
The Board is reviewing the vote and will make a renewed effort to build a stronger consensus for a dredging and funding plan. It has been suggested that a flat fee would get more support than an assessment based on property value.
Brian Polinske, a resident, is circulating a petition to finance dredging using a flat fee. If you would like to sign the petition or help collect names contact him at polinske@sbcglobal.net. If the idea is well supported a ballot will be mailed so all residents have the opportunity to vote.
